THE REAL DEAL ABOUT BIKINI WAXES

So when I was 19 my friend (who I’ve mentioned a million times on this blog and I am still great friends with) convinced me that we could perform our first bikini waxes on ourselves. We invested in some microwaveable kit and let’s just say, we both ended up with burnt skin, blood and bald patches! Fast forward about seven years, I’ve learned a few things about getting waxed and I'd like to share it because there is a lot of false information floating around the internet.

Painkillers?
When I was getting ready for first professional wax I read online somewhere that taking a painkiller half an hour before your wax appointment helps with the pain. Lies! I’d say you’re better off taking a shot of tequila to calm you down. Because the thing that gets me is not so much the pain but the anticipation of the pain. I mean, don’t me wrong it’s going to hurt like a b***h! But you can take it! I am a big baby as far as pain is concerned but I find the pain from getting a wax pretty bearable. So just breathe and try to stay relaxed.

Therapists judge you!
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but anyone that's spent any time in a beauty salon knows that all therapists do in their down time is gossip about their customers. So make yourself and your therapist comfortable. Show up clean! Some therapists have told me they’ve had ladies come in to get waxed on their periods! Come on now, that’s just terrible. If your hair’s exceptionally long, try to trim it before you get there. If you're worried about anything, discuss it with them, be open. And leave a tip - it’s the least you can do because it can't be a fun job right?

Waxing will make your hair grow back thinner or slower
Now I've never experienced these great and wonderful things. I know some people do but most of the girls I’ve spoken to have told me it takes years for them to experience this. That’s years of consistent waxes.. Yelp:(

You’ll feel different after your wax
This I agree on! When you get a wax, you’re going to feel different down there. A little chilly and drafty, if you know what I mean. But seriously, the first thing that surprised me was right after you get waxed, peeing gets a little messy. TMI? OK that’s all I’m going to say lol.

Use a professional therapist
I’ve gotten waxed in a lot of different places and to me the therapist and where you go has the biggest impact on your experience. Personally I'd recommend Barazahi. The therapists there are warm, friendly and super professional, and the treatment rooms are clean and comfortable. They charge N3,000 for bikini waxes and N5,000 for Brazilians which I think is very reasonable. Barazahi is located at 16 Fola Osibo, Lekki Phase One. And you can reach them on +1 234 280 6836 to make an appointment.

Where do you guys get waxed? And do you have any tips?

I have gotten waxed. First time was really a long time ago.
Now i get home service, she does the homemade sugar and honey i think it is. N5k for brazillian & backside, half leg and under arm. I like being able to get in the shower right after.

    1. Heya that price is amazing! I've actually tried home wax service in the past and I think you get a better experience in a spa but can you leave the details of the person you use? Some of my readers may want to try it out x
