Hey Dolls,

Every now and again I'll convince myself that I have my product junkeism under control then something like this will happen -

I don't even remember making a decision to buy the entire Raw Shea Butter range by Shea Moisture and yet I somehow ended up with these three products in my house lol. I bought the Moisture Retention Shampoo and the Restorative Conditioner when I was in New York and my sister decided to get me the Deep Treatment Masque when she came back this summer. As you'll know from my Battle of the Leave-In Conditioners post, I've been devastatingly disappointed with the Shea Moisture range so far so this seemed like a good way to try it all out all over again.

First Impressions
I surprisingly preferred the smell of this range to the Coconut and Hibiscus one. This smells really light and not really like shea butter.  I can't really tell you what it smells like to be honest. It's just a very light fragrant smell. The Deep Treatment Masque has the strongest smell of the 3 products.

As always I love Shea Moisture's packaging. I did find the pump on the conditioner a bit awkward but I always find pumps annoying - didn't help that mine was broken though! But the sizes you get are pretty generous all products were 355ml (12 oz) . (Disclaimer my pump has now broken in half sigh)

In addition to certified organic Shea butter, this range also contains sea kelp to detoxify hair follicles of impurities and product build-up, argan oil for shine and to rebuild hair elasticity. We all know how amazing shea butter is for moisturising and repairing damage.

Wash Day Routine
I always start off my misting my hair, gently detangling with a wide-tooth comb and sectioning my hair into 4.

Moisture Retention Shampoo

The shampoo for me was hands down my favourite product of the bunch. For a sulphate-free shampoo it formed so many suds which I loved but didn't leave my hair feeling stripped at all. I washed my hair twice with this and I really loved it.

Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner

The conditioner described as a "leave-in or rinse out conditioner detangles, moisturises, repairs and restores lifeless damaged hair". It's very thick and creamy. I  used it as a rinse-out conditioner and honestly didn't love it. I found it absolutely useless as a detangler as it had zero slip for my hair so I just gave up on that. As far as moisturising it definitely did that. My hair didn't feel dry after using it but this product generally left me feeling underwhelmed. It fared a lot better for me as a leave-in on dry hair though. It left my hair feeling moisturised and I will definitely use it this way in the future.

Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque

I loved the consistency of this. It was so thick and creamy which is exactly what I look for in deep conditioner. I saturated this in my hair and sat under my steamer for 30 minutes. I honestly can't say anything bad about it but usually after steaming with my concoction of oils and conditioners it feels very soft and this product didn't do that. My hair did feel strengthened afterwards though. So I would use it again perhaps after taking a weave or braids out. I also used this on my mother' hair. She's relaxed and I put this on her hair and she sat under my steamer as well. She really liked this product so maybe it works better on relaxed hair? Not so sure, but I personally wouldn't repurchase this.

So all in all, it was another lacklustre Shea Moisture experience for me. I've concluded that their range just doesn't work well with my hair but having said that their shampoos are the BOMB and I'll definitely be stocking up on those in the future.

What's your experience been with the Shea Moisture range?

  1. Great review Hun thank u! You are not a junkie!!! Just a product lover ;) been meaning to try a few products from the range so this was interesting x

  2. Nice review! I recently just purchased the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie (only because it was on sale, 2 for 1!) which is my first ever Shea Moisture product purchase. It's so expensive in the UK so I've just steered clear of the line before... hope I'm not disappointed :(

  3. first time visiting this blog.
you have such lovely curls love your hair

  4. Nice tips on hair on your blog. I also love your post on asos

  5. I really like the shampoo too, it was the shampoo that got me. I used the restorative conditioner as a daily conditioner and it wasn't bad at all. I think the range isn't bad.

Thank you ♥
