My ASOS Online Shopping Experience

ASOS Haul

ASOS Haul by loveifeyinwa featuring chunky high heel pumps

Hello Everyone!

I've been umm-ing and aww-ing about whether or not to try out the Free International Delivery on ALL Orders that ASOS offers since I moved back. More than two years ago! I just imagined my parcel getting lost in some vacuum that would require heaps of paperwork to get refunded. After a few months of complaining about "having NOTHING to wear" I decided that I would have to give it a try. Waiting to leave the country to shop was taking too long (not to mention TIRING- having to shop nonstop for days and days gets old quickly) and after my last visit to Mango at the Palms I decided that I would NOT be shopping here under any circumstance -the prices are just crazy.

So after a late night online window shopping session I decided to start off with a small  work clothes order to test the process. Didn't hurt that ASOS was having a huge sale at the time. I placed my order on ASOS UK on the 26th of August (I paid using a Naira debit card). My order was dispatched on the 28th and I received it on the of 9th of September - 11 days later! Not bad!

A few odd things happened though...

So I don't know if it's just me but when the postman came (haha at postman) he said I had to pay N1,000 delivery charge. He said that if I didn't pay the N1,000 that I would have to pick it up myself from the post office. Now I was under the impression that delivery was free but I guess not to your actual house.

Another thing, the blazer I chose from Mango was not available for delivery to Nigeria, so I had to choose a UK address for that to be delivered to. Luckily my brother brought that in this week so that was OK. But its worth noting that not every thing on the website can actually be delivered to Nigeria.

I think the returns process is worth mentioning too. ASOS will refund you for any unwanted items if they receive it within 21 days. But they won't pay for the delivery of the items. As far as I know there's no way to post anything out of Nigeria so that's a problem.  The skirt and the sheer top I got weren't as nice as I was hoping and if I was in the UK I would definitely return it but from Nigeria it's way too long. So in my closet they go!

All in all it was a successful experience, so much so that I've already placed another order. This could become a problem...

  1. Hiya! Just found your blog. I live in Lagos, and was looking for other natural hair women and i found you.

Regarding asos, I ordered from them i believe 2/3 years back and again last year. I don't know if the The N1,000 is for delivery or for customs' charges. I remember calling the delivery company in Nigeria and they said something about if my package is over a certain weight, then i have to pay a certain amount of money. The next time I ordered, the amount i was charged was for customs. Yours is for delivery so...*shrug*, who knows? lol.

Anyways, it was nice reading your piece.

    Bye! :)

  3. i did order some stuffs from asos early this year and they were nice. A good was to know if the quality of any clothe material you order is to check the info and care box at the bottom for the fabric details before making orders.I paid 2k for my delivery then and the delivery man was mad i didnt give him a tip. My new orders shd be delivered next week and i shudder to think how much i have to pay for delivery and tip this time around.

    1. Oh no, what's wrong exactly? I didn't have any issues or have to set anything up might be because I have a GT Mastercard, which card are you using?

  7. Actually, the 1000 you were charged was by Nipost itself being its usual shady agency. They charged me 500. Perhaps the figure changes as the spirit leads. Lucky you, at least you got your stuff. I haven't always been lucky. First time I bought from Asos, my delivery didn't get to me. Second time, 2 items were missing. And on both occasions, I'm sure those items were removed at the point they got to Nigeria. Cos those in the UK never have this problem. The good side about this though, is that when you report to asos, they always return your money back.

  8. My experience with Asos hasn't been bad at all. I think its our system that is shady. I ordered from Asos via express delivery which came into Lagos the next day. Our naija courier didn't deliver until 10 days later and guess what, I had to still pay 2900 as the delivery guy called it custom charge. Terrible! but I love my clothes. please check www.msjsbass.blogspot.com to read interesting stories of Women who braved the storm. Thank you!

  12. Hi guys, I'm sorry but I don't have any information on the delivery company or post office. The best way to track your package would be by sending the Customer Service team at ASOS an email directly. They're pretty great at getting back to you quickly. x
